PORT OF SPAIN, May 17, 2011: The Police Service Commission (PSC) wishes to inform members of the public that it views with great concern recent press reports over police accountability and integrity.

This is in relation to the contents of two articles published by the Express Newspaper on Saturday 14 May, 2011, page 9 headlined Probe into missing $6200 from Four Roads Police Station. The other Express article was published on Sunday 15 May 2011 page 22 under the headline Cops foiled in arrest.

In light of these two (2) articles, the PSC remains concerned over what appears to be the continuing erosion of public trust and confidence in the Police Service.

All this information is connected to the drugs and ammunition found inside the roof of the St. Joseph Police Station.

In keeping with its constitutional responsibilities of monitoring the efficiency and effectiveness of the discharge of the functions of the Commissioner of Police, the Commission has therefore requested the Commissioner of Police Dr. Dwayne Gibbs to provide a report on these matters as well as on the disappearance of US$94,000 from the Couva Police Station and to state what measures he intends to put in place to arrest the recurrence of similar situations.

The Police Service Commission means business and stands ready to help in ensuring accountability, transparency, fairness and respect in the Police Service.
