Situational Update as at July 29, 2010 – 4:10 p.m. Following this afternoon’s heavy rains, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management has received reports of flash flooding and landslides. Some of the affected areas were:- POS City Corporation Beetham Gardems, Port of Spain East Dry River, Port of Spain Piccadilly Street, Port of Spain Parts of South Quay, Port of Spain Parts of Tragarete Road, Port of Spain Parts of Wrightson Road, Port of Spain Tunapuna / Piarco Regional Corporation Freeman Road, St Augustine South Orange Grove Road, St Augustine South Parts of Macoya Parts of St. Joseph San Juan / Laventille Regional Corporation Jubilee Street, Aranguez
Traffic • The traffic lights along Churchill Roosevelt Highway between the Aranguez intersection and Tunapuna were not operational. This has caused some traffic congestion which is being addressed by the TT Police Service. • A landslide and fallen tree are blocking the smooth flow of traffic on the Western Main Road in the vicinity of the Yacht Club and the Goodwood Park entrance. This is being addressed by multiple agencies. Landslide • A landslide has been reported on the Lady Young Road (east bound lane) in the vicinity of the back entrance of the Hilton Hotel. This is being addressed and the authorities are attending. • A landslide has also occurred in the vicinity of Goodwood Park and the Western Main Road (50 m from the TT Yacht Club, eastbound lane). The landslide has caused damage to a retaining wall. The Disaster Management Units of the various corporations are out on the field and will work with the Ministry of Works and Transport to begin clean up operations. Please note that no infrastructural damage has been reported nor has there been any loss of life.
