Minister of Social Development visits St Michael’s School for Boys

The Minister of Social Development, Dr. the Honourable Amery Browne, will pay a special visit to the St. Michael’s School for Boys, Diego Martin Main Rd., Diego Martin on Tuesday 9th March at 7:30 am.

This event which forms part of the Ministry of Social Development’s effort to lend support to Queen’s Royal College breakfast Fundraiser, will allow Dr Browne to have breakfast with the residents of St Michael’s School for Boys, interface with and deliver motivational support to students at that facility.
St. Michaels’ School for Boys is a rehabilitative facility for males ages ten to fifteen whom the Magistracy deems at risk. The institution is one of the beneficiaries of annual subventions, disbursed through Government’s Social Sector Investment Programme and which is utilized to meet operational expenses and effect physical refurbishment of the facility.

The residents of this institution, are exposed to various programmes including academic, sport, physical training, etiquette and social skills aimed at modifying their behaviour in order to prepare them for their eventual return to society.
Residents of St. Michael’s School for Boys have also received scholarships to help them reach their full potential. Probation officers from the Ministry’s Probation department follow up on the sixty-five boys sent to the school by the court and monitor their progress.

The goal of the Ministry of Social Development is to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of the social sector with a view to improving the standard of living of all citizens, particularly those deemed at risk.
