September 12, 2012:

All regional corporation employees will now receive certification via the Workforce Assessment Centers (WAC) initiative.

Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, Fazal Karim made the announcement at the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation during the launch of the On-the-Job-Sectoral Environment.

He said he was informed of workers who were skilled and had certain competencies but were yet to be certified.

Karim also announced that his ministry would be installing Youth Training and Employment Partnership Programme (YTEPP) mobile buses at every regional corporation.

He also indicated that he would be holding discussions with Local Government Minister, Surujrattan Rambachan with the view to sign an agreement between both ministries to certify employees, in whatever occupational area they are skilled.

"This exercise in certification, will not only improve the quality of the workforce, but raise the self-esteem of your citizenry," noted Karim.

Children will also benefit from the OJT programme as Karim encouraged parents to take their children, (under responsible supervision) and expose them to technology, the idea of entrepreneurship and the advantages of tertiary education.
