UWI’s Alma Jordan Library remembers Trinidad and Tobago in 1962

The Alma Jordan Library of the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus, commemorates Trinidad and Tobago’s 50th anniversary of Independence by showcasing our history with an exhibition titled, “Forging the Nation’s Identity: Trinidad and Tobago in 1962.”

This exhibition comprises two components, a physical display which is now open until October 12th, 2012, and located at the ground floor of the Alma Jordan Library and an online display available at  http://mainlib.uwi.tt/divisions/wi/displays/Forging_Nations_Identity/intro.html.

Both components focus on the evolution of three aspects of our country’s identity: the National Flag, the National Anthem and the Coat of Arms. Many of the original items on physical display were retrieved from the Library’s Carlisle Chang Collection.
This exhibition also features the talents of two members of The UWI St. Augustine Campus community.

Darron Small, assistant at the Library’s West Indiana and Special Collections Division, is the artist behind the painting, “Synergy,” chosen to represent the exhibition, and Kristian Mathison, a third-year student at the Department of Computing and Information Technology, did the technical work for the website where the online display can be found.
This exhibition is free and open to the public.
