July 26, 2012: The Scholarship and Advanced Training Division (SATD) of the Ministry of Public Administration (MPA) is responsible for the management and administration of all scholarships offered by or through the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The SATD has implemented an online system called SATIS (Scholarship and Advanced Training Information System) to manage the entire application and administration process for scholarships. The programme was launched last year (2011) for the Advanced Level Scholarship recipients. Since then nearly 5000 profiles of scholarship recipients have been created. These include persons who utilized SATIS last month to apply for Scholarships in areas such as Allied Health, Social Work and Related Social Science fields, Library and Information Science, Developmental Needs and Scholarships for persons with disabilities. Scholarships from the New Zealand Government under the Commonwealth Scholarship Programme were also processed online. Several applicants have complimented the MPA on the electronic system with comments like: “Very nice and user friendly, the process is totally online”, “I am impressed with the system. I could not believe it was a government agency”, “Real nice and thing. I am glad that the Government is moving in this direction”, “I am glad I did not have to come to Port of Spain to apply”. Minister of Public Administration, The Honourable Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan expressed her pleasure with this service-delivery initiative. She said, “We are keeping our promise to deliver quality goods and services. It shows that we are genuinely here to help by making the scholarship applications process more accessible. The application of technology- based, service- driven initiatives such as the SATIS is a vital step towards transforming the Public Service into an organisation characterised by efficiency, productivity, innovativeness and a commitment to improving service delivery and customer satisfaction. The SATD will continue to develop a series of process driven institutional strengthening projects aimed at providing quality service to all citizens.”
