June 18, 2012: Public Service week 2012, continued today with the Opening Ceremony of the OPEN HOUSE today on the Brian Lara Promenade. This OPEN HOUSE will continue until June 23, 2012, excluding Labour Day (tomorrow Tuesday June 19). The week of activities will end with a Government Career Fair. The Open House, which was well attended today by hundreds of persons, will also take place on Harris Promenade, San Fernando, on Wednesday June 20, 2012. The Formal Opening Ceremony will be at 11:00am. Minister of Public Administration, The Honourabe Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan will deliver the feature address. Minister Seepersad-Bachan told the audience at the Brian Lara Promenade today that the four-day Open House brought "the entire public service to you the people of Trinidad and Tobago." She explained, "This is part of Public Service Week 2012 and is an opportunity for you who consume the multitude of services the Government offers to interact with those who provide these services. It is also part of our sharing the idea of the journey from Gold to Diamond that is our theme this year. It is only through the interaction between service providers and service consumers that we will know what you want and expect now and in the future” Permanent Secretary Gillian Macintyre also commented on the idea behind the OPEN HOUSE initiative by saying “It is intended to bring those of us throughout the public sector who provide services to the population together with the persons we serve. The theme of this week’s celebration is from Gold to Diamond. We are recognising the Golden Anniversary of our national public service and commencing our journey to the Diamond anniversary, as we prepare for the future” Senior Government officials attending the Opening Ceremony today included Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communications, Suruj Rambachan; Minister of Tobago Development; Vernella Toppin; Head of the Public Service and Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister, Reynold Cooper; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communications, Margaret Parillon; and Former Head of the Public Service, Sandra Marchack.
