May 29, 2012:

Head of the Meteorological Services Division of the Ministry of Public Utilities, Emmanuel Moolchan has gone into retirement.

Line Minister, Emmanuel George delivered his farewell to Moolchan at a media conference to announce the official start of the hurricane season at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

George wished Moolchan a happy retirement and thanked him for his professionalism, saying he (Moolchan) deserved “a rest” for his service to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
“He has the ability to take complex information and make it simple for ordinary people to understand. Thank you for your analysis over the years,” George said.

He also praised the division for its work, saying it has built a “credibility that is invaluable.”
“Mr. Moolchan always comes over as being believable even when operating in a milieu of probability. I hope that those coming after him will build on that credibility,” George said.

Moolchan expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the partnership the MET office has had with the media saying “The media makes us look good. We owe it to them to respect their request for information.”

The MET office hosted the event today to announce the start of the 2012 hurricane season, giving presentations on the weather outlook and climate for 2012, explaining their forecast bulletin and warning methodology and also giving a thorough overview of their newly revamped website http://www.metoffice.gov.tt/.
