Young tennis players off to the 2019 Junior Davis/Fed Cup Tournaments
The Tennis Association of Trinidad and Tobago (TennisTT) received 100% of the funding requested in the amount of $148,660.83, toward this country’s participation in the 2019 Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup Tournaments in El Salvador over the period February 2-16, 2019. This funding is expected to cover airfare, accommodation, meals, ground transportation and medical support for the team.
During the brief handover ceremony held at the Ministry’s Head Office on 4 February, acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, Farook Hosein reinforced the Ministry’s commitment to total participation in sport, especially that of youth participation in sport. He also indicated that it is always encouraging to see young athletes perform at the elite and sub-elite levels, which bodes well for the future of tennis.
According to Tennis TT executive member Jermille Danclar, who was on hand to collect the cheque, Trinidad and Tobago will field strong teams. He indicated that this is the first time in over six (6) years that Trinidad and Tobago will have a girls’ team, all who possess ITF Junior World rankings. The female team comprises Isabel Abraham, Aalisha Alexis and Keesa Lee Young, while the male Junior Davis Cup team will include Kamran McIntosh-Ross, Ebolum Nwokolo and Kyle Kerry. The coaches are Ivor Grazette and Anthony Jeremiah for the girls and boys respectively.
The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs remains committed to supporting efficient organizations which serve the needs of the athletes, while contributing to the overall development of sport in Trinidad and Tobago.
