27th October, 2020: The Minister of Education, Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, along with Minister Morris-Julian and Ministry officials, met with the Registrar of CXC, his team and other regional Ministers of Education on October 19th, 2020, to discuss in detail the numerous queries made subsequent to the release of the 2020 CSEC and CAPE results and the report of the Independent Review Team appointed to investigate this matter.

In that meeting, the Ministers of Education present recommended that CXC waive the total cost of reviews for examinations in 2020. CXC committed to take the request to the Council for consideration, and on October 27th indicated to the Ministry of Education that the Council voted in favour of the 50% wavier of the review fees.

As of October 27th, 2020 the number of requests for reviews from Trinidad & Tobago students for CSEC number 2,352, while CAPE numbers 3,325.

In light of this, the Ministry of Education wrote to CXC on October 27th, requesting that they honour the commitment made to review school-level concerns without the need for students to apply individually, and without cost, based on the myriad queries raised by schools at the subject level. The entire list of school-level concerns received at the Ministry of Education was also resubmitted for urgent attention.

The CXC has committed to the following for review of 2020 grades:

1. Remarking reviewed scripts- not simply re-tallying

2. Abandoning the possibility of grade diminution

3. A reduction in the review fee to $15 US

4. Expeditious turn-around time for reviews

Students who are in the process of making individual requests for review of their CXC examination grades for 2020, based on the deadline of November 6th, are advised that they should continue to use the stipulated process for doing so.

The Ministry of Education will continue to monitor the progress of the review process, and in short order, will disclose the procedure by which reimbursement of review fees will be accomplished, in accordance with the commitment made by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.
