February 19, 2015: The Ministry of Education is reporting a 77% attendance of teachers in the nation’s Primary Schools and 72% attendance of teachers in Secondary School on Ash Wednesday, 18th February 2015, as compared to a regular attendance on a daily basis of approximately 85% of teachers.

Further, the Ministry advises that only 27% of primary school pupils and 21% of secondary school students attended classes today, as compared to a regular daily attendance of 88%

The Ministry notes with extreme disappointment, parents’ failure to send their children to school, despite several pleas and reminders from the Education Ministry that Ash Wednesday is a normal school day.  Today’s approximate 25% attendance overall of our nation’s students is abysmal and unacceptable.   Parents are once again reminded of their crucial responsibility to ensure that students attend school and that parents themselves understand the consequences of keeping their children away from classes.

These figures were compiled, analysed and submitted by Principals and School Supervisors as of 3:00pm this afternoon.
