Scarborough Secondary school students visit the Trade Ministry
“Be an informed consumer and make wise shopping choices!” were the words of advice to fourth form students of the Scarborough Secondary School today by Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry. The students are currently on a one day field trip in Trinidad as a part of its Food and Nutrition Class programme which focuses on consumerism and the purchasing practices of consumers. Minister Gopee- Scoon told the students that “the Ministry continues to work closely with the Tobago House of Assembly as well as the local manufacturers in an effort to help build their capacity and make their products export ready”. She urged them to take advantage of the information provided by the Ministry of Trade and Industry through various media to make wise choices. Students were provided with information regarding their rights and responsibilities as consumers; consumer safety and protection laws; and the National Consumer Policy which brings a greater level of protection to consumers with increased focus on e-commerce. Their visit also includes a visit to the Massy Food Stores and the Kiss Baking Company.
