November 10, 2017: The Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, Haji Kazim Hosein has received an overwhelming contribution of relief items, from corporate volunteers Petrotrin and the Kenson Group this Wednesday, November 8, 2017.
President of the Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Petrotrin), Mr Fitzroy Harewood and Communications Officer, Mr. George Commissiong, donated several boxes of non-perishable items, household and cleaning supplies as well as water to the Ministry. In addition, founder of the Kenson Group, Mr. Kenneth Ferguson also made a generous donation of 20 double-decker beds. These relief items will be efficiently utilized to assist disaster-affected across the country.
Minister Haji Kazim Hosein thanked both corporate donors for their unreserved efforts to assist the people of Trinidad saying, “this is what it is all about, the spirit of volunteerism and putting country first. It was really heart-wrenching to see the damages caused by the recent torrential rains in areas like Woodland, Barrackpore, Piarco, Carapo, Mafeking and many others. I am pleased to see such collaboration between corporate Trinidad and the Ministry as we work together to ensure that those less fortunate in our society receive the assistance needed. Special thanks to Petrotrin and Kenson Group for their donations which will go a very long way. Petrotrin has always been good corporate citizens, helping the communities in any way that they can and for that I want to commend them.”
Following the handover of these disaster relief items, the Senior Disaster Management Coordinator in the Ministry distributed 3 beds and 2 hampers to a family in the New Grant area, where a father of three (3) is paralyzed and the children have little to no access to basic necessities. Additionally, 2 beds and a hamper were given to a family whose home was destroyed by a recent fire in the Pleasantville area.
The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government continues to work with all local government practitioners to ensure that the livelihood of those affected by disasters are restored as efficiently as possible.
