Minister of National Security meets U.S Southern Command military officials
Minister of National Security the Honourable Stuart R. Young M.P. received a courtesy call on September 09, 2019 from Lieutenant General Michael T. Plehn, Military Deputy Commander, U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), at the Ministry of National Security’s Head Office on Abercromby Street, Port of Spain.
Lieutenant General Plehn was accompanied by other senior U.S. military officials. The team is in Trinidad and Tobago with the US Navy Hospital Ship Comfort.
Minister Young took the opportunity to express heartfelt thanks to the SOUTHCOM team for their service to the people of Trinidad and Tobago. Lieutenant General Plehn reaffirmed the positive bilateral relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and the United States of America in countering threats to the region. Both parties welcomed further opportunities for security cooperation.
The USNS Comfort has been on a five-month deployment in Latin America and the Caribbean region, providing medical assistance in support of regional partners and in response to the regional impact of the political and economic crisis in Venezuela. The vessel will depart Trinidad and Tobago on September 10, 2019.
