Major Cabinet decisions pertaining to national security
The Minister of National Security, the Honourable Stuart Young announced a number of major decisions pertaining to National Security, taken by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago during their Cabinet meeting on Thursday 9th August, 2018.
The following are some of the major highlights:
• An upgrade to the country’s radar system will be done in an effort to secure this country’s borders and to prevent trafficking in all its forms. Broadband connectivity will also be widened so that the radar system would have the widest coverage possible;
• The Government is in active negotiation with the Commissioner of Police designate, Mr. Gary Griffith as it relates to his contractual terms of conditions of employment;
• Minister Young also stated that he will receive a report from the Heads of the Security Agencies on Friday 10th August, 2018 describing the current national security landscape and the challenges this country faces as it pertains to public safety.
• Cabinet will be on a one day retreat on Friday 10th August, 2018 at the Diplomatic Centre in Ann’s. During the exercise, the various Ministers will review the development programme, inter-ministerial cooperation activities and public service responsibilities among other issues.
