Latest Tsunami advisory issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center

The ODPM has received alerts via the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (via Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological’s Office Alert Systems) of the following:

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.6 occurred
north of Honduras at 0252 UTC on Wednesday January 10 2018.

* Based on all available data... hazardous tsunami waves were
forecast for some coasts.

Belize... Cuba... Honduras... Mexico... Cayman islands...and Jamaica.

Tsunami threat forecast...updated as of 12:56 am there is no longer a tsunami threat from this earthquake.

Recommended actions:

* remain observant and exercise normal caution near the sea.
Otherwise... No action is required.

Potential impacts:

* minor sea level fluctuations up to 30 cm above and below the
normal tide may occur in coastal areas near the earthquake
over the next few hours.... And continuing for up to several
hours.

The ODPM continues to monitor and awaits further updates from TTMET.
