Housing Minister appoints new HDC Board

December 4, 2015: The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the Honourable Marlene McDonald presented Instruments of Appointment to Members of the newly installed Board of the Housing Development Corporation on December 3, 2015 at the Ministry’s Conference Room, South Quay, Port of Spain.
Mr. Newman George has been appointed Chairman, while Mr. Rasheedali Mohammed will serve as Vice Chairman. Other Board members include Janice Clarence-Quamina and Chandra Gokool, Keith Scotland, John Cardenas, Keli Gbekor (THA Representative on the Board) and Bernard Mitchell.
Minister McDonald reminded the new Chairman and Members of the Board of the parameters of their portfolio and urged them to adhere to the principles of good governance. She also shared with them some of the priority items on her wish list going forward, namely completion of projects, particularly along the East West Corridor, where the need for housing is greatest; addressing the issue of those applications exceeding the $25,000 income ceiling criteria for public sector housing (approximately 1,186 have been identified on the Ministry’s database); and, settlement of outstanding payments to contractors.
The Board was advised that their deliberations must always be in the best interests of the people they serve as they proceed to carry out their mandate in fulfilling government’s policy with respect to the housing sector.
