Goat owners praised for contribution to Buccoo Festival

April 14, 2016: Prize giving ceremonies are usually occasions to celebrate the achievements of those who win competitions.

Secretary of Community Development and Culture, Tobago House of Assembly, Dr. Denise Tsoiafatt-Angus said it’s also important to celebrate all participants that make the event possible. That’s why she singled out goat owners and other contributors to the 91st Buccoo Crab and Goat Race Festival for praise at the awards function on Monday night at the Buccoo Community Centre.

“We also celebrate relationships and partnerships that could go from the goat owners and the jockeys, a relationship that grows throughout the year,” the Secretary said. “A lot of work is done throughout the year, investments at all levels, training, good nutrition, doctor’s visits all of that.”

Dr. Angus also believes greater appreciation should be shown to the passion of the goat owners, who make significant efforts to ensure they are ready for the big event.

She said no amount of prize money can make up for their dedication, which is why the celebration is focused on partnerships with the private sector.
