Education Minister Condemns Acts of School Violence

The Ministry of Education is currently investigating a video being circulated on social media of an incident involving a number of female students from the Mayaro Secondary School who were involved in a fight. Preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred on Tuesday 14th March, 2017 at 4.06 pm while they were on their way home from school.
The Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education strongly condemns all acts of violence in the school system. He along with a team of Ministry officials will be visiting the school next week and assures that the matter will be fully investigated and appropriate action will be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
All four female students involved in the incident - one Form One and three other girls in Form Two have already been placed on seven days suspension by the School Principal pending further investigations. They have also been referred to the Guidance Unit for counselling.
