EBC launches internal investigation into UNC claims

The Elections and Boundaries Commission notes the statements made by the United National Congress (UNC) in its Media Release calling for an investigation into “inconsistencies and anomalies” in specified constituencies.

The EBC received correspondence from the UNC on October 11, 2019. It immediately launched an internal investigation to provide an accurate and timely response. In addition, based on a request from the UNC, the EBC has agreed to meet with them on October 24, 2019 to discuss the matters raised and any other issues they may have.

For general information, please note that the EBC conducts verification exercises for first-time registrants, as well as for those persons who have requested a change of address. These exercises involve EBC Field Officers visiting relevant addresses to confirm that a person actually resides at the address he/she provides.

The EBC would also like to remind persons who are unsure of their registration status or who may have changed their address to visit their Registration Area Office. The Electoral Registration period for the 2019 Local Government Elections starts on Thursday, October 24, 2019.
