'The Comms Green Project'
The Chagville Beach in Chaguaramas is a little cleaner and greener following a “Trash Tag Challenge and Tree Planting Ceremony” along its shorelines by the Ministry of Communications (MOC).
Fifteen (15) bags of trash were removed, three (3) trees were planted at Chagville and an additional three (3) trees given to the Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA) for replanting at Tucker Valley during the beach clean-up and tree planting exercise.
The Minister of Communications, the Honourable Stuart Young, Minister of Community Development, Culture and the Arts, Dr. the Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly and employees of the MOC participated in the event on Friday May 10, 2019.
“This is a great initiative because the truth is, the earth is under tremendous pressure and even if we plant one, two, three trees, hopefully that makes a difference somewhere. The fact is that you all were prepared to come out and get yourselves dirty and that is really appreciated,” said Minister Young.
The event is part of a wider initiative developed by the MOC entitled “The Comms Green Project” which is in line with the Vision 2030 goal to place the environment at the centre of social and economic development.
Minister Gadsby-Dolly said one of her Ministry’s mandates is patriotism and the inculcation of patriotism among our citizens.
“Cleaning up our environment and ensuring that our country is sustainably managed is important for us and important for our patriotism thrust, so we are happy to join this initiative and be a part of it and to support it in any way we could,” she said.
The MOC tagged the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts and the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government to tackle the “Trash Tag” challenge in a location of their choice and pay it forward creating a ripple effect.
The intention is to get all of the Ministries involved and participating in the initiative. The “Comms Green Project” is comprised of three (3) phases:
Phase One: Nurture, Nourish and Care for your plants- Give it a name if you wish!
Phase Two: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (Public Sector Recycling Programme).
Phase Three: Comm Clean With Us - Trash Tag Challenge and Tree Planting Ceremony.
