Coastal clean-up forms part of National Patriotism Month for Community Development Ministry
September 16, 2016: Environmental awareness and civic pride will be integrated into the National Patriotism Month Celebrations 2016. The Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts partnered with the Caribbean Network for Integrated Rural Development (CNRID) on Friday 9th September, 2016 at the Courtyard Marriott, Port-of-Spain for the launch of the 2016 International Coastal Clean–Up. The International Coastal Clean-Up (ICC) will take place at over 25 sites across the country on Saturday 17th September, 2016.
“The Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts is honoured to be a part of this year’s International Coastal Clean-Up as part of our observance of National Patriotism Month August 31 – September 24,” said Dr. the Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, Minister of Community Development, Culture and the Arts as she gave her remarks at the event.
“This Clean-Up will not only demonstrate our love for the environment but our love for country. It symbolises our service as citizens to the land on which we exist,” the Minister added.
In her welcome greetings, Ms Marissa Mohammed – Country Coordinator for the International Coastal Clean Up, “This year makes it the 13th year of the ICC. I’d like us to adjust our ways to protect the ocean for future generations and turn the tide on thrash.”
The Media Launch also informed persons of the latest data on the adverse effects that human trash had on marine and aquatic life.
The attendees were also treated to a dramatic presentation “Halfway Green” by the EMA Youth Ambassadors that encourages persons to car-pool, reduce use of non-biodegradable items, organic gardens and solar panels.
The International Coastal Clean-up will take place on Saturday 17th September, 2016 at over 25 sites across Trinidad and Tobago.
