Bledman cops gold

Ahead of the up-coming IAAF World Championships, Keston Bledman copped gold in the men 100-meter sprint, at the Kuortane Games in Finland.
Part of the 29-member Trinidad and Tobago track and field team who are in Finland for a camp preparing for the Championships in Moscow, Russia; Bledman clocked a time of 10.09 seconds. He beat out fellow country teammates, Jamol James (10.35), Rondell Sorrill0 (10.37) and Ayodele Taffe (10.39).
A number of the local athletes took part in the Games as a means of a warm-up ahead of the bi-annual IAAF Championships.
Jarrin Solomon triumphed in the men 400m in 45.58, ahead of TT teenager Machel Cedenio (47.20) and Finland’s Mikko Kangas (50.07).
Keshorn Walcott, Olympic javelin gold medalist was unable to earn a medal with a fifth place finish in 82.24 meters.
Two other nationals obtained personal bests, as Reyare Thomas and Shawna Fermin secured victory in the women 200m and 400m respectively.
Thomas took gold in 23.23 seconds, while fellow teammates, Kai Selvon (23.27), Michelle-Lee Ahye (23.33) and Kamaria Durant (23.46) finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.
At the women one-lap, Fermin led the Trinidad and Tobago top four as she completed the distance in 52.62, ahead of Domonique Williams (53.94), Romona Modeste (54.26) and Aleena Brooks (54.98).
In the women 100m hurdles, Aleesha Barber finished in sixth place in 13.95 seconds behind Jekaterina Galitskaja (13.14), Nooralotta Neziri (13.27) Elisa Leinonen (13.50) and Olena Janovska (13.67) and Lotta Harala (13.95).
