Appointment of members of the standing National Labour Market Council
The Minister of Labour and Small Enterprise Development, Senator the Honourable Jennifer Baptiste-Primus, presented letters of appointment to the newly appointed Members of the Standing National Labour Market Council (SNLMC) on Tuesday 13TH August, 2019 at the Ministry’s Head Office in Port of Spain. The establishment of this Council is critical to the development and modernization of the Labour Market Information System (LMIS) and by extension the National Statistical System of Trinidad and Tobago. Once implemented, the LMIS will be responsible for organising and managing the flow of data related to the labour market, obtaining labour related data where gaps exist and ensuring that a Private Sector Job Vacancy Survey is conducted.
The Standing National Labour Market Council was established on the 13th of October 2001, with the role of advising the then Minister of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development on all matters relevant to the efficient collection, processing and utilization of Labour Market Information Statistics of Trinidad and Tobago. During the period 2012-2014 the Council initiated work inclusive of updating the labour market concepts and definitions. Minister Baptiste-Primus stressed the importance of the Labour Market Information System in ensuring that policies are data driven.
Minister Baptiste-Primus expressed her appreciation to all the Members who agreed to serve, and conveyed her confidence to the newly appointed Chairman, Ms. Kevar Williams, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Ag.) of the Ministry of Labour and Small Enterprise Development.
