Eight of Trinidad and Tobago's local manufacturing companies flew this country's national colours high today at the Opening Day of the 59th Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City.
The local companies were at the Javits Centre in New York to participate in the annual food fest.
Trinidad and Tobago's mission was welcomed by Senior Vice President of the Specialty Food Association, Chris Nemchek who spoke at length with Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment, Vasant Bharath, who leads the mission.
The first five hours of the three-day Show saw Trinidad and Tobago's representatives fielding questions and queries from a constant stream of visitors which included Trinidad and Tobago's ambassador to Washington, Neil Parsan and the Food Institute's, Amanda Gomez.
This country will be featured in an article in the July 1 edition of the Food Institute Report. The article is titled 'Caribbean nations tout local fare at Fancy Food Show’ and will be distributed to thousands of exhibitors and visitors at the Show.
The manufacturing companies representing Trinidad and Tobago are Angostura Limited; Caribbean Development Company Limited (Carib Brewery Limited); Charles Chocolates; Chief Brand Products; KC Confectionery Limited; National Canners/Matouks International; SMAKS Luxury Group; and VEMCO Limited.
Visitors to Trinidad and Tobago exhibit will be given samples of Matouk’s jerk bar-b-que sauce, guava jam, hot chow, tropical relish, kuchela and Scorpion pepper sauce; KC Confectionery’s dinner mints, ginger mints, supper mints, creamy toffee, ice blass gum and sour face; Angostura’s deep chocolate sauce and Angostura®crunch mix; SMAK’s newly launched Chai Rum and Angostura®Aromatic Bitters Bespoke Tea Blend; Carib Brewery’s carib lager, shandy sorrel and mackeson stout; as well as Charles Chocolates’ catch, rum and raisin chocolate and milk chocolate.
Representing Matouks are the company's marketing manager, Linda Chow-Quan and its Sales Executive, John Dixon, Sales Executive; KC Confectionery is being represented by its International Export Executive, Miguel Bermudez while representing Angostura Limited is their US Culinary Brand Ambassador, Rita Held.
Vemco Limited's representatives at the Show is Director of National Brands, Christopher Alcazar, Director, National Brands and Export Manager, Donna Kissoon; representing Carib Brewery are their Export Director, Sheldon Wood, and Regional Export Manager, Monique Brackett while Charles Chocolate has their Export Representative, Safraz Mohammed.
Other members of the mission are Dr. Gail Bacchus-Taylor, Deputy Chair of the Food and Beverage Industry Development Committee, the Ministry's Communications Manager, Yolande Agard-Simmons, Industry Specialist with the Ministry, Shanna Ramesar-Beharry, Manager, Goods Export, Damie Sinanan, Manager, Goods Export and Export Officer at exporTT Limited Roann David .
The 59th Summer Fancy Food Show runs from June 30 to July 2 and this year the Show boasts 2,400 exhibitors, with
34 international pavilions, including Bulgaria, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Italy, Turkey, France, Spain and Trinidad and Tobago.
The Show comprises of over 350,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space with 180,000 specialty foods and beverages.
